The first full length effort from this young foursome from Chico, California, of whom much is expected, Number One Gun released this set back in August last year and it definitely lives up to the high hopes that we had of them. A confident sound and expensive production sheen give ‘Celebrate Mistakes’ a more than passable chance of success. Reminiscent at times of the Goo Goo Dolls, this is thoughtful rock, as evidenced in the excellent light and shade of “On & On” and “You Fail Sometimes”. “Starting Line” gets matters off to a high energy start, while “Invest In You” just cries out for radio airplay. This album is the musical equivalent of a model with a slightly tousled image. Impassioned if slightly rough at the edge vocals, huge guitar riffs and a sound that really should propel Number One Gun to the top of their particular tree. If you’re still to be convinced, do me a favour and check out “Hear This” and “Get Up (The Way I Feel)”; it really doesn’t get much better.
