This is the Derbyshire-based singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist's first foray into solo work after the breakup of his former band GiveWay and is an album of considerable ambition. It kicks off with "Back Where I Belong", which owes more than a little to "Bat Out Of Hell", setting the scene for what aspires to be a set of songs to bring classic rock to a new generation. Sadly though, the delivery often fails to quite do the genuinely good musical ideas (though some, like the rather uncomfortable flirting with odd time signatures in "Midnight Blue" don't do the disc any favours) justice. The skill required to play every instrument on an album is admirable, but the results here sound at times no more than demo quality with some pretty dodgy guitar tones present, and drums that are sometimes just downright out of time. The lyrics could do with a little more consideration too, "Carpe Diem (Seize The Day)" is more amateur poet than Dead Poet's Society. There is, however, evidence of a degree of talent as an arranger in the quasi-orchestral piece 'Psalm 151'. A great demo to show the potential of a developing musician, but as a finished product, this doesn't quite make the grade.

WHAT?! I couldn't wait for this review so there would be evidence of how good this album is and I'm shocked it only got 5/10! Some of those comments are just not true; how can the lyrics be 'amateur'? Maybe they're simpler in Carpe Diem but they're still fab catchy songs, each one memorable and easy to sing along to - not all lyrics have to be Shakespeare to please listeners!

dodgy guitar tones?????????? elliot's the best guitarist in the area!! move out the way clapton!

i have to say i disagree with the review, elliot is an amazingly talented musician/songwriter and to compose all these songs and play all the instruments takes more skill than is being acknowledged here. granted it wasnt recorded to high quality but maybe that is down to him wanting to keep it grounded and raw. Lets not forget he is only 22 and as much as this is a learning curve for him i also think credit should be given where it is due.

I love this album! For a debut album, it has great variety, maturity and melodies.
I have to disagree with the comment about the lyrics because most of the songs have very thoughtful and mature words, and even the simpler lyrics often have double-meanings. Also, the tunes are really catchy but never too simple - I often find myself humming them!
I think Mr Dipple should listen to the album a couple more times, appreciate the standard of the melodies and lyrics, and variety of styles used by Elliot Rose, then revise his review and rating up a couple of notches!!

well done "Josh", you might realise one day that you CAN actualy have more than one genre in an album.....it has classic rock elements, but also pop, metal, country, orchestral and psychedelic stuff. Its called versatility.

Hi,
Elliot is the leader of our worship group at St George & St Mary's in Church Gresley.
This is his first solo album and he has used members of the group as his support singers. His abilities as an up and coming young musician are well recognised by all in the church, including those of us who are trained and have sung semi-professionally. This album has much potential and as with all musicians starting out, needs the encouragement to persevere on this track. Get in touch woth him and see for yourself. By the way, his second is out shortly. Worth a listen.
Thank you CrossRythms for listening and offering some constructive comments.

I purchased a copy of Reflections and my review is that it is an excellent breath of fresh air for Christian music.
I may not be a trained muscian to rate comments on the quality of the music but I do have a good hear for music and think this CD ticks all my boxes.
I found the lyrics of the songs to tell the listener a story accompanied to music which I found particularly pleasant to listen to on some of the tracks.
Has a first attempt CD I believe this to be a good indication of what we could expect in the future as the muscian develops and grows in his abilities with writing both lyrics and music.
