Like everyone else, I to was shocked to hear of Danny's passing. From the middle 70's to the middle 80's I played drums in a christian band called Sonshine, from Binghamton,NY. We played quite a few of Danny's songs when we played at area churches. They were always well received. We also sent a letter to Danny asking permission to play his music. He gave it graciously. Thank you Danny for some of my fondest memories of early christian music.

I had the opportunity to play with Danny in the early 90's. It was a band thrown together to back him for 2 sets at a gospel music festival in South Carolina. LuLu Roman was the headliner and Danny was either her manager or road manager at the time if memory serves. After the only rehearsal the night before the festival, I went to my youth minister's house and was excitedly telling him and his wife of the rehearsal and so on (I was 19 or 20 at the time), this being the first time I had gotten a call from out of the blue from someone I didn't know because they'd heard I was a GOOD drummer. after I'd babbled for a few minutes my youth pastor stopped me and said, "What did you say this guy's name was?". "Danny Taylor", I replied. He and his wife looked at each other with cheshire cat grins and then back at me and asked, "Do you have any idea who you just played with?" to which I responded, "no." They went on to fill me on how instrumental he was to Christian music. The next day before we played, after the first set and any other time I could, I would talk to Danny and ask him about the early days of Jesus music. He was so gracious to humor me with stories and to encourage me as a Christian and a musician. He taught me and challenged me so much in that brief time. I remember two things vividly about the music set: a song called "Never Could Leave Well Enough Alone" that had a sort of calypso beat and a clever play on words and another song with an uptempo kind of train track country shuffle. I remember those because I'd never been asked to play those kinds of beats before and had to learn them on the spot. I was also struck with how un-CCM his music was stylistically. Very eclectic range of influences. I am so sorry to hear he passed away and wish I had thought to look him up earlier, but will always be thankful for the time I got to spend with him, what he taught me and that his legacy will continue to reach people for years to come.

I was just singing some of Danny's songs to my wife tonight and she asked me who's song it was. Then we looked up Danny Taylor on the internet and learned of his recent passing. The impact he had on my life was profound. He and I met in the mens room at our church in Nanuet NY and he prayed for me in the bathroom interestingly enough to be baptized in the Holy Spirit which is what happenned. Sad that is gone but glad he's with the Lord.

I got the chance to hear Danny Taylor in New Milford, NJ at a concert back in early 70's and also when he and Scott Ross came and spoke at our church in Fardale, NJ. I own the first album and still hum along to the songs. I am so sorry to hear that he passed on.

I knew Danny from the Mustar Seed in Ramsey.

I was in that minstry with Dick Van Houten, Bob Steel and many others.

Just woondering if you remember any of that.

Danny was a wonderful soft hearted person. He tried so hard to share his music with the world and he did!

Danny was a major influence on my music and Ministry. He had a path to the heart of God and that got more spiritual results than any drum solo or guitar lick.Dan helped Jesus win souls and there was a nice reunion already when Dad passed.

Hi Mike,

I remember in the early '70s when you played at a tent meeting in Bergen, NY. It was co-sponsored by the Methodist and Presbyterian churches. I bought the album you had out at the time. What are you up to now?

Danny Taylor and I were very close friends at the time of his death. Just before he made his fateful trip to visit his brother Sammie in Tacoma, WA for his uncle Wally's 80th birthday, I was at his home in Oberlin, LA helping him with his computers. I was there for several hours talking and joking with Danny. His sight had began failing him. Two days before he left on his final journey, he called me to tell me about his trip, and on his return, we were going to take his albums on vinyl and remaster them onto CD with the newer audio editing software that is now available. Alas that time didn't happen.
Danny and I shared a business together, and had a small 24-track songwriting studio in Oberlin, then in Oakdale, Louisiana.
Danny often went on road trips, and talking about everything imaginable. I cannot count the hours and hours of time we spent together.
Danny showed me how to write a song, improve my vocals, and how to produce good music.
I am proud to have called him not only a friend, but almost like my brother. I appreciated knowing Danny Taylor, he gave me all the copies of his albums, and I will endeavor to remaster those albums this coming year.

My husband and I just danced to one of our records A Time for Love. It has been a long time and both of our albums are warped. The voices of Danny and Sandra brought us back almost 32 years to the first time we listened to this album together. My husband had just proposed to me . If you do ever get these songs onto cd s, I know we would love to have a copy. We were very saddened to learn of Danny Taylor's passing on. We are sorry you have lost such a special friend.

David: Thank you and God bless you for posting this. A precious ending to a true disiple of our Lord Jesus and it is wonderful to know he is living life etenally in the presence of God now. PLEASE PLEASE post something or email me when the recordings are remasterd and put on CD or on anything that can be purchased! Danny's music not had a Major impact on my life but my whole family. We listened to the cassett someone had given us back in the 80's until it finally just snapped in half and we all cried. We ache to hear his music again all the time. A major family bond for us. Thank you!
