Article Title: Scripture Bashing

Comment: Hi Paul - the 'Bible Bashing' you comment on is a classic example of using Sciprture out of context, because a text out of context is a pretext. Your average agnostic (and church goer!) doesn't read or know much of the Bible, so more well-known and well-used Scriptures are taken out of context all the time; used as promises without giving the conditions associated with that promise, or worse, as 'magic charms' quoted to make people feel 'better', rather than allowing the Holy Spirit to bring conviction. Jesus quoted Scriptures to Scribes and Pharisees who had devoted there lives to the study of those Scriptures, so they certainly knew the context, but still didn't understand their meaning. Today there are plenty of 'Scribes and Pharisees', whitewashed tombs, Jesus called them, who as you say are more than ready to 'wield the Sword of the Spirit like a hammer' attacking the fragile structures those who are seeking Jesus have started to build. As another respondent says, let's live out God's Word, so that people will see Jesus in us and want to get to know the Word who became flesh.
