The Atlanta-based one-time singer with the Shekinah Glory hitmakers, Murphy has pulled together a high quality, dynamic band and choir for this live recording. Despite its professionalism, it does tend to fall into the copycat trap of his Verity record label mates such as Fred Hammond, Hezekiah Walker and Kirk Franklin. Still, they are not easy acts to follow, and William's unique proposition is that of writing songs in the context of personal worship. His voice does not have the depth, character and tone of some of those already mentioned, but he makes up for it with devotion and sincerity. Check how he sings "Make Me Righteous". Rather than having a flashy band and choir to dominate the show, Pastor Murphy keeps the arrangements a little simpler, allowing the song lyrics to speak and inspire. "In His Hands" urges the congregation to trust the God they worship, while "It's Working" and "Already Getting Better" is an exercise of faith and prophecy. Because William doesn't have the most versatile voice, a few more solos from the talented choir members would have been welcome. But as it is 'God Chaser' has its moments.
