Such is the impact with Redding, California's Jesus Culture on the worshipping Church that any ministry connected with the Bethel Church or the Jesus Culture record label is certain to attract much more interest than most contemporary worship releases. The opener here "Deep Cries Out" is a particularly powerful anthem that appeared on the Bethel live album 'Be Lifted High', as is the title track. What quickly becomes clear on the album is that William is a musical eclectic. There's something of a tent revival Southern gospel vibe on "I'm Free" while "My Great Reward" has a punchy R&B sound. But possibly the most unexpected track is "Bridge Over Troubled Waters". No, it's not a Simon & Garfunkel cover but a Matthews original with a powerful groove. When asked about his album debut Matthews said, "I really feel the album is going to release hope in you wherever you're at. We're going to release hope in God, hope in people and hope in cities and nations." A worthy aim indeed.
