With five solo recordings over an 11 year period, and numerous vocal/acoustic guitar contributions to other projects, Wes King is well respected on the US CCM scene. Here with his first album in four years, Wes charms us with a refined set of beautiful soft pop and gentle inspirational sounds. You may call it "easy listening", but these self-composed songs are craftily constructed and musically diverse and each one is imbued with profound spiritual meaning - built around the concept of "proverbs" Wes wants to pass to a younger generation. Favourites include the unhurried thoughtfulness of "Slow Miracles" and the country delight of "Connie Come To Georgia". In manner of style and his tender voice, King is most reminiscent here of Canadian singer/songwriter Steve Bell - but who's complaining? With subtle input from MW Smith and Scott Krippayne on particular tracks, and tasteful production from Ed Cash, 'What Matters Most' is a truly artistic volume.
