In this computer-generated animation retelling of the story of David and Goliath, David is a small vegetable and Goliath a giant pickle. Other parts are played by a motley assortment of vegetables! If that sounds surreal, you've not yet discovered the Chicago geniuses who've created Veggie Tales. The scene is set by Bob the tomato and Larry Boy superhero (a cucumber) who act as our narrators and interpreters of the story. They apply the story to Larry's own feelings of being "plain ol' Larry - boring and ordinary." We discover that it isn't only big people who do big things and that "anything God wants me to do - I can do." The humour works, the story works and the theme song "Little Guys Can Do Big Things Too" is wonderful. It all works, apart from one other song in the middle which doesn't seem to fit in with the rest of it. The acid test is to see if the punters like it and my six year old loved it. Aimed at ages three and up, this is worth checking out.
