This spiral bound music edition of the African Worship Collection has 108 worship songs that have come out of Africa. It features songs of Malcolm du Plessis, Isi and Fini de Gersigny, Carol Mundy and Janine Price to name a few. These songwriters' works are not so well known to me as the previous Mayhew Publications from Australian, British and American composers, so although I recognised only a few well established songs I was soon transported into worship with new songs of praise, joy and delight in God. The songs range from the traditional African style swing of "Hallelujah, Hosanna" and "Jabulani Africa" to the majestic sound of "Glorious Lord, Wonderful King" and "We Declare Your Majesty". Some of the songs are written in an African tongue and many reflect a thankful heart to the Lord for his hand on Africa. All songs are clearly written for piano/keyboard and guitar, (not enough info on tempo), and are thoughtfully laid out to require a minimum of page turning. Most songs are arranged by Chris Mitchell. This book will be a very good resource for churches and music/worship groups to extend their repertoire and to teach new songs with quite straightforward and predictable melodies that are easily learnt and remembered.
