Multi award-winning gospel artist VaShawn Mitchell's latest release sees the Atlanta-based singer/songwriter and producer offer up his own brand of polished gospel in a partially live album that exudes a victorious vibe of a life lived in Christ. Kicking off with the dance/gospel fusion "Holding On", it's clear that Mitchell and crew are out to have fun and this vein is continued in the likes of the title track and the anthemic "Greatest" whilst slower tracks such as "God My God" and the soulful "My God Is Real" offer up a change in pace and showcase Mitchell's considerable vocal talents. Whilst some live gospel releases tend to overdo the fervour resulting in a product that becomes accessible only to die-hard fans of the genre, there is a sense here that Mitchell and his co-producer Daniel Weatherspoon are keen to rein things in to make this release as appealing to fans and newcomers alike as possible and, although many of the songs here are over five minutes in length, they never seem to outstay their welcome. Generously, Mitchell lets guest singers such as Jonathan McReynolds and Rizen's Adrian Lewis Freeman deservedly take the limelight on "Release" and the reprise of "Watching" respectively whilst Mitchell's protégés Tasha Cobbs and Anthony Brown also make an appearance.
