For those not familiar with Trin-i-tee 5:7's output of the last nine years, this compilation is a good place to pick things up. The CD kicks off with "Put Your Hands" which is the old song that Pat Boone and others used to sing, about putting your hand in the hand of the man who etc... Now stay with me here and I'll give you a pretty precise picture of the groove that Trin-i-tee give this particular song. It's Average White Band's "Pick Up The Pieces" and Grace Jones' "Pull Up To The Bumper", stuck together with a bit more space and more of a modern thump for the kick drum. It's a great track all round, especially the new tune that the old song is given. What bugs me a bit about this "best of" is that it's slightly formulaic: fast song, slow song, not quite so slow song, stuck on loop, personally I'd like the kickin' songs all together. The girls have a reputation for being urban but urban music moves on fast and the slow songs on here sound like they are from a loooong time ago and belong elsewhere other than in a 2007 CD release. "People Get Ready" is on here, hmmmm, it seems like everywhere I turn there is someone who has covered that song. And I can't think of anyone who has arranged it much differently to Curtis Mayfield's original version with the Impressions, even Curtis' Stratocaster licks are copied. So why do it? 12 songs selected from the trio's three CDs released between 1998-2002, every song on here is taken seriously and given a thorough production.
