It's quite extraordinary how a tiny independent label, 7Core Music run by producer/studio man Trevor Michael, has got onto its roster two of what Cross Rhythms would assert are Britain's best, most creatively charged artists. I refer, of course, to Ian Yates and Tina Boonstra. The single "Flicker" has a delicious, chugging rhythm and, with Tina's brittle, breathy vocal, has more than a bit of Marina & The Diamonds about it. The song is based on the age-old question, "what is the meaning of life, and where do we fit in?", to which Tina reminds us that even if our light is a small unworthy flicker, we need to keep shining it in this dark world of ours. Another Cross Rhythms radio hit and another creative triumph for Ms Boonstra and Mr Michael.
