As any self respecting soul buff will tell you, The Whispers were prolific hit-makers in the '70s and '80s and their creamy harmonies and rich soulful lead vocals meant they could tackle everything from soulful ballads to driving disco. Apparently the group were also believers and after decades of enjoying fame and fortune have acknowledged God in their lives with their debut gospel album, produced incidentally by Fred Hammond. This project opens with "Thankful", an upbeat dance track performed in the style of the soul era of the late '70s. The lyrics, especially the chorus, are similar to the old spiritual "I Want Jesus To Walk With Me". Their expertise is highlighted on "For Thou Art With Me" which is a runaway success on which they base the song around Psalms 33 verse four. Their intricate harmonies are displayed on this track while "Living Without You" is a ballad with beautiful lyrics which quickly captures your heart. These mature gentleman have not changed their style but taken Scripture and the act of praising the Lord and gelled them with their own sound we have come to know so well. "This Is How I Feel" can be considered to be The Whispers signature track on this CD. The familiar vocals of lead singers, brothers Walter and Wallace Scott on this song demonstrate everything that is classy about vocal group R&B.
