One of last year's most memorable hits in clubland, "I Know The Lord" gains a re-release here with rejuvenated mixes plus a couple of fresh ones. For those not in the know, Italian 'Italian-house' producers (if you know what I mean), The Tabernacle have licensed the vocal from a song on an obscure gospel album 'All Of My Appointed Time' which gospel great Bessie Griffin recorded acapella at her New Orleans home way back in 1975. The result is a slamming dancefloor groove with the emphasis more on the dancing than the message, but it's surprising how strong the message is considering The Tabernacle are not, to my knowledge, Christians. The quality of production is well up to scratch and better than the majority of Christian releases; to be expected really with a budget of much more than most Christian bands get for a whole album! The three "Lord's Anthem" versions feature a very catchy piano/strings lead but don't manage to deviate much from what is after all, a fairly formulaic dance tune. Better is to be found in the chilled-out 'Evangelist Radio Mix' and the less predictable yet still recognisable remixes from Way Out West and Gregorio. The acapella intro of the latter is particularly good. Worth getting.
