When Cross Rhythms wrote about the Rubyz in 2008 we called them "Christendom's answer to Hannah Montana." I suppose we should now label them Christendom's answer to Selena Gomez. As is the way with teen pop branding, the three young ladies on this EP - Tanner Davis (17), Jessica Coffey (14) and Addy Schneider (14) - are not the ones who launched into the CCM scene in 2008. I'm pleased to report they sing pretty well and avoid the worst cliches of teen pop. For instance, there's not an autotuner in earshot. I could suggest that the producers should have upped the pop dance appeal and one or two of the songs here sound more like the kind of ADULT CCM you're likely to find on America's K-LOVE radio playlists. The best song here is the opener "Breath Takingly Beautiful" (no guessing who that song is about) though why the record company have tacked on a Christmas carol - a so-so run through of "Angels We Have Heard On High" - to the end of this EP is a mystery.
