After 10 years, the Orange County ska punk team have announced that 2005 will be their final year. 'Unite' is their swansong, a best of and a personal thank you to their fans. With six albums to draw on, picking a top 10 was never going to be easy. Supertones have picked 20 instead. Fans will already have all these songs. For anyone else, 20 songs are a big task for a ska album. Nevertheless, live favourite "Supertones Strike Back" is a good start, and this is a strong collection. "Adonai", one of the two re-recordings which constitute the new material, ends with a shout out to a number of ska bands. It's an apt tribute to the mid-'90s movement that, with the demise of Five Iron Frenzy last year and The Supertones this year, we can safely say is over. With 'Unite', ska fans will find all the excuses they'll ever need to wear baggy trousers and do funny walks around their bedrooms. If you never liked ska, or at least the American version of it, in the first place, this won't change your mind.
