"Live albums are for the true fans." So says Tony Terusa of The OC Supertones, and this is never more apt than with this recording. The sleevenotes tell me that they have released four studio albums. If you have all four I would assume that you are a fan, and would want to buy this album no matter what is written in this review. If you want an introduction to The OC Supertones please don't choose 'Live Volume 1'. I guess the best way to describe this album is to say that it is a cross between ska, rock and pop and it doesn't quite pull it off. The vocals are very ordinary, the music is acceptable but never dynamic or inspiring and the horn section huffs and puffs in all of the right places. If you want a ska revival you will be dissapointed with the power chords and if you want a rock album you will be dissapointed by the attempts at ska. However, if you don't set your standards high, don't mind the embarrasing between songs chat and want yet more cover versions of "Holiness" and "Open The Eyes Of My Heart" then this could be the album for you!
