A new line-up and a progression in sound from the unfeasibly funky Perth acid-jazz outfit whose debut was one of the very best things of 1999. Vocal duties have been assumed by Jonathan McNeil, sounding not unlike Elvis Costello, and with a vocal delivery so relaxed he probably recorded them on a lilo in the middle of a swimming pool. Elsewhere there is much use made of a particularly yummy string section and some happening brass. Musically, they lean more in the direction of Jamiroquai for their second outing, most notably on the monstrously catchy "Miles From Your Door", but to single out individual cuts would take away from the fact that every one's a winner here. Yet again the jive express have expertly fashioned the perfect soundtrack to summer, which would brighten up the coldest, darkest winter day. It's been on my CD player since I got it, and it'll take a crowbar to prise it off. If there's a better album this year, I will be very surprised.
