Whilst this, the second outing for Californian punk/hardcore outfit, still has more than a nod towards an earlier era of frantic, fast hardcore, a development in sound can definitely be heard. The addition of David Robledo on bass has provided a new dimension, filling out the band's songs and bringing diversity to their rhythms and melody. The most notable of these are the ska-influenced "Shot Heard 'Round The Corner" and the '50s styling of "My Revolution". Despite this, traditionalists need not be concerned. Elements of Office Negative can still be heard in the maniacal drumming of Danimal and The Crucified in angry spat lyrics from Johnny Hoax. Production is also improved from their debut release, the instrumentation sounds sharp and crisp but still retains a live, energetic feel. With most tracks coming in at two minutes The Hoax pull no punches with their forthright Gospel-centred lyrics. They do, however, allow themselves a break with the whimsical hidden track at the end of the album. If you missed the first recording from this foursome, 'Stumbling Through' is a real step up in class and deserves to help raise the profile of this talented foursome.
