Anthemic rock song from Irish guitar band beginning with a moody ominous bass line and leading into a whispered verse that opens out into an epic anthemic chorus, it's clear that Irish rock band and Greenbelt Fest favourites The Ghears have stadium stages in mind. Well, ambition is fine, but this isn't the song to get them there. "4 Minute Mile" is conventional, quiet verse/loud chorus rock and lead singer Paul Archer's lyrics (chorus line: "Something's missing/Spend a lifetime searching") lack the originality or spark required to make the song really interesting. There's real passion in the band's playing and they have better songs than this, but on the strength of "4 Minute Mile" alone The Ghears sound too much like U2 wannabes.

The Ghears are phenomenal. It such a shame that all Irish bands have to be compared to U2. We have more to offer y'know? keep going Paul and the boys. Paul you make us proud.

I agree with Teresa, I feel it bears little resemblence in attempting to be U2. It is I agree an anthemic track, there is such a varied and refreshing change within the song however it flows along perfectly. There are so many contrasts within it is quite magnificent. The vocals of Paul Archer are an added bonus and definitely complete the song, his voice is indeed something new and wakes the senses. I think it a contender for one of the more energizing, bracing, invigorating songs I have heard in a while.

Bizarre review or what !!. Being a fan of The Ghears, the new track `4 Minute Mile' is one of the strongest tracks I have heard for a very long time. Powerful driving track with fantastic melody and sublime vocal treatment. Nothing like U2 other than that they are from Ireland. The lyric has to be taken in context to the whole of the bands work over several years. This is no empty cliche and neither are this refreshingly honest band. I'm betting this will have major commercial appeal when released, even though the band are far from involved in pop.
