The Gathering worship band has formed out of the Elim's youth movement Serious4God. Recorded live at the national youth event in the West Midlands, the album wears its garment of praise in much the same way as the latest Hillsong United and Abundant Life CDs. Packed with full on rock riffs and punchy choruses the album is vibrant and uplifting. A few reflective worship tracks include the wonderful "Closer", challenging everyone to call upon the name of Jesus, the finale of which has two London rappers Vessel and T1 reinforcing the truth that if you call on Jesus' name he will come closer. Hot producer Paul Burton has captured much of the live feel and the recording boasts nine new tracks penned by Tim Sanders, Ryan Griffith and Joel Pridmore, who also lead the worship with the confidence and vigour of more commonly known worship leaders. Obvious influences of Hillsong United, Soul Survivor and Passion can be found throughout the recording yet the worship still retains a certain freshness. Listen out for "Go Go Go" with a clever bass line and catching chorus as well as the popish "Perfect Love". Further standout tracks include "You Reign" and "King Of All" with the declaration that God reigns being the common theme. The chorus of the anthemic "How Great Is Our God" powerfully closes the album with Vessel and T1 rapping an invitation to receive Christ. A cracking live album.
