4 out of 10 is ridiculous. This album has heart, yet the review seems to nit pick some production stuff which I diagree with by the way, and fails to recognise that this is some cracking independant material! We need more bands like this if Christian music is to break out of the box that has lots of other bands sounding 'samey'. I really feel this is a refreshing album and love Kingdom of Heaven - what a great acknowedgement of God as our loving father and of our inheritance! Calm the storm is just way cool and we get 2 versions of Wings to fly which is another great track. Did it ever cross the reviewers mind that independant releases won't have million dollar producers on board? I got this CD 2 months ago and I'm still playing it. My non-christian friends like some of these songs too, so what does that say about this as ministry?
Gotta go with the 8 out of 10 too.
In reply to J's comment. I am a huge fan of independent CCM & I agree that we do need more independent bands on the christian music scene to take away some of the blandness that we often come across - not everyone has to conform to a fixed formula. There were a number of positive comments made regarding this CD but what you must realise however is that a review is an opinion, which we are all entitled to. I am pleased you liked the CD & that you have been blessed by its content.
I am disappointed though that you seem to resort to incorrect & personal comments to get your points across.
Wow - I was surprised when I read the above review - I've clearly purchased a different album! This CD has been a real blessing to me and I personally WOULD be able to recomend it! (No offense Simon as everyone is entitled to thier opinion.)
I liked the various collaborations as it kept the cd fresh and interesting. I'm amazed by Simon's thought's on 'calm the storm' though - I loved it! I'd recommend that people check out the myspace page for this disc and decide for themselves. Clearly not an album for Simon and perhaps it is not the typical 'christian sound we are used to hearing - but that only helped me to appreciate it more as it is different. The myspace listeners seem to agree anyway...
I'd agree with the comment about some of the drums being a little loud at times, but overall I would score this album 8/10.
Calm the storm absolutely rocks! I lurve the rain/thunder etc and the way this is mixed in to the song.
Having listened to this cd a few times now I cudn't understand why the reviewer seemed negative about it so I looked at some of his other reviews and the anser is clear - he shouldn't have reviewed this disc as it is so different to the cd's he has raved about in other reviews (Gospel etc). It's possible that if he has a problem with prominent drums, he probably doesnt listen to the foo fighters etc. I think this should be re-reviewed by someone who likes indie/worship which is how I would categorize this. This isn't a dig at you Simon, I just think your bias is obvious regarding your preferred music and this hasn't fell into that mould for you.
I'm not a reviewer as such so I think its unfair for me to try and score this, though I will say I like it and I have been inspired by it. I've even started reading Jeremiah due to listening to Restrain your eyes from tears (track 10)!
I am pleased to see you have been blessed by the contents of this CD. As reviewers, we receive a cross section of music which does not always tie in with our own personal preferences. I must point out though that:
Despite your assumptions, my musical preferences do not lie within the Gospel arena. If I review a Gospel CD (or any other for that matter) & it's good, I will be honest & say so as any reviwer worth their salt would.
I have no issues with loud drums as I am a drummer - I do loud very well!! I know we like to hear ourselves & we have the tools to do that, but on a production such as this I felt they were too far forward in the mix.
I love independent productions as we do need to get away from "same old" type formula material.
I would look forward to seeing another CD from these guys any time & hope they continue in their ministry.
