From the opening phrase “Thank God for music/So we can use it” the hip-hop ministers from Philadelphia make their approach abundantly clear. These aren’t white kids furiously reaching for street music credibility or black guys using the expanding CCM market for rap as a stepping stone to the big dollar. These guys are MINISTAHS, in for the long haul and with this album, their first for a nationally distributed label, they show the same flair for bold, in-your-face proclamation which gave Cross Rhythms radio turntable hits like “Test It”, “On Right Now” and “I Am That I Am”. To use a phrase of one of the interludes on this joint, these guys aren’t going to be “consumed by the flame of popular opinion” but are clearly going to minister for the long haul. Their sound is still streets, though slightly more commercial than some of their esoteric jams of old, and these guys still take no prisoners.
