Nobody makes rock as hauntingly eery as Derri Daughty and Steve Hindalong and though they seem incapable of holding a regular band of accompanists around their formidable talents it matters little. Choir's albums are of a consistent quality whatever the current line up and this could turn out to be their best - it's hard to say after a few plays, these guys minor key drones creep under your resistance rather than smacking it down. Derris Daughty's ringing guitars shimmer in aural washes of sound while he softly purrs songs of glowing faith and sad introspection. I can't say I go for all his lyrics, sometimes they tumble into self conscious art school pretension, but at their best like the visionary title track and the billowing "Restore My Soul" ("I call to you/with one lung exploded/from breathing the dust of the earth") are intelligent alternatives to the cliché strewn vistas of much CCM.
