The 12th album from seminal American alternative band The Choir contains a sparkle that few groups could muster after more than two decades on the scene. Largely thanks to a great bunch of songs from the pen of drummer Steve Hindalong and lead vocalist Derri Daugherty delivered in the latter's own unassuming style, it's obvious that the pair are happy to be reunited in the studio with bassist Tim Chandler, sax player Dan Michaels and guitarist Marc Byrd. Whilst references to their faith are subtle and less obvious, the lads put their own point of view across in the likes of "The Word Inside The Word" which urges tolerance amongst religious factions whilst "It Should Have Been Obvious" tackles chief lyricist Hindalong's own prejudices. Elsewhere, in-jokes such as "Mr Chandler" and "I'm Sorry I Laughed" - referencing band members in respective stories of travel misadventure and accidents on stage - add a certain charm to the proceedings and show a band at ease with their creative output. Showcasing an experimental edge in the likes of the thought-provoking tale of childhood torment "That Melancholy Ghost" and the haunting "Say Goodbye To Neverland", this exemplary release proves that there's plenty of life left in the old band yet.

I was pleased to get my copy within a week of ordering from thechoir.net and agree with whoever it was above that place it in the Top Three Choir Albums. Speckled Bird remains my Number One but this is another to which I will keep returing. Here's hoping for another UK visit.

Thank you so much for the kind review. It means so much to us that people still listen. I hope we can get over to the UK next year to play some dates.
Peace to all

As a long time fan, first saw them live at Greenbelt in the 80's promoting Chase The Kangaroo album, I have to say that if this is not their best album, it is in the top 3. Brilliant stuff. Clever, thought-provoking, poetic, honest and witty lyrics (I suspect some of which wouldn't be allowed on a US CCM major label) reflect all aspects of life, both general and personal. There is also a "commentry" version of this CD available from their website on which the band explain in more depth about each song. Stand out tracks for are "The word within the word" and "It Should Have Been obvious". Fantastic - as a Christian of over 30 years I totally identify with the contects/themes of this CD. Treat yourself to brain and soul stimulation
