If you're a southern gospel buff you'll know the Cathedrals are the kind of elder statesmen the genre likes to roll out the red carpet for. This recording is a live farewell performance by the Cathedrals, who are hanging up their hats in gospel music. Songs include "Oh What A Saviour", "There's Something About That Name" and "When The Saints Go Marching In". There are several guest appearances, including the Statler Brothers, the Oak Ridge Boys, Sandi Patty (spot the odd one out!) and of course Bill Gaither. This is very much in the style of Deep South old time Gaither vocals, therefore it is no surprise that it is in the 'Gaither Gospel Series' and is produced by Bill Gaither himself. I think this would have to be one for die-hard southern gospel devotees only, or maybe Bill Gaither enthusiasts recently won over through that series of phenomenally successful videos! Although there is no disputing that these songs are all classics and whilst acknowledging that this is a tribute album, the barbershop harmonies mixed with good ol' boy sensibilities are rather an acquired taste.
