From the many releases of the Cambridge Singers, John Rutter has selected 15 serene and tranquil tracks for this compilation album, perfect for relaxation and enjoyment. The music spans over 10 centuries and ranges from Gregorian Chant ("Adoro Te Devote"), through traditional folk tunes ("Down By The Sally Gardens") to classical music of all periods, including the church music of William Byrd. The high point of the compilation is definitely Gregorio Allegri's "Miserere" which originally appeared on 'A Banquet Of Voices' (reviewed in CR24): it is a quite exceptional recording, raising the goosebumps on every listening. This compilation not only acts as a chill out experience; it is also a wonderful introduction to the recorded work of the Cambridge Singers, surely one of Britain's finest choirs.
