Tennessee Ernie Ford's home state, Tennessee was, of course, the seed-bed of much country-gospel music which at an early age seeped into his emotional soul. At the end of the 19th century, as evangelical denominations became accepted by the Victorian establishment, the use of popular tunes for hymns was extended. Newly-converted, common people within a generation succeeded in introducing spirituality into their every-day poetry and music. History documents that this musical movement helped Christianity to move nearer to the soul of the common people. Folk style rhyme and music successfully blended into the cosmopolitan character of all denominations. Since those days, there have been thousands, including Tennessee Ernie Ford, who have joined the gospel music train. This is an enduring legacy of 20 "Century-Old Gems" that today bless millions!
