Simply put, American Brit-rock worship band Telecast is modern rock n’ roll worship at its best. The first track “The Way” caught my attention immediately with Ten Shekel Shirt like acoustics and electric driving qualities similar to Coldplay. I found this album full of lyrical gems taken from Scripture and level headed Christian living. The title track begins with nice piano and declares: “It’s the beauty of simplicity/That brings me to my knees.” This catchy line is bound to be in my head all day. “Radiate” is another great theme: “Jesus I want nothing more than to radiate your love.” The musicianship and songwriting on this album is top notch and can compete with the best in the genre. I would easily put this album in the calibre of Christian counterpart Jars Of Clay and mainstream-stay Coldplay. The worshipful lyrics should appeal to college age worship settings, but are perhaps not best for general corporate worship. Also, I really wanted this album to have more of a nearly-out-of-control feel and more diversity akin to Coldplay’s “Rush Of Blood To The Head”, but it didn’t quite make it there. The last track threatens to lose it in an all out jam and is hopefully a taste of more worshipful energy to come. Still, encouraging content and excellent musicianship thrive on ‘Beauty Of Simplicity’. This album is a prime example of how Christians should have the best art and be leaders in what they do, whether it’s leading worship or having a rock and roll show. My advice is that you buy this CD and keep an eye on this band.
