On first listening to this debut EP, it immediately suggested to this reviewer that the artist is Scandinavian. Actually, Summer State Of Mind is London-based vocalist Kate Papworth. A shimmering, laid-back feel suggests The Avalanches while the ethereal, lush atmospheric soundscapes on this debut EP evoke Sigur Ros. "Brand New Everyday" reminds us of God's mercies and forgiveness, "new every morning" as the refrain puts it. There are some nice, William Orbit-esque production flourishes occasionally; "Slowing Down For You" has lyrics about yearning for a heavenly perspective about this life; while "He Will Come Again" has crowd vocals behind Kate's Bjork-like vocal which remind me a tad of U2's "Love Is Bigger Than Anything In It's Way". High praise for Andy Kyte's production values shown here with Olivia Jaguar's harp playing and Abbie Davies' violin part worth a particular nod. An excellent debut EP and one which will put the listener is a positive mindset.
