Consisting of Johann Ting and Loretta and Natasha Andrews (the latter two once members of CCM favourites Shine), this London-based trio have been making strides in the mainstream, appearing on tour with Take That and therefore automatically come with some kudos. Refreshingly, this is musically inventive stuff and this EP, released last year, offers up five polished and memorable slices of acoustic R&B that buck today's soulless X Factor-like trend - not surprising given that recording took place at Paul Weller's renowned Black Barn Studios. The undoubted highlight of this collection is the infectious "Pedal Stool" - a song about coming off one's pedestal, making the title either a wry in-joke or a spectacular misspelling - and sees the trio in fine funk form before they settle back into default ballad mode in the likes of "If Only For Tonight". In terms of referencing their faith, "Sailing Away (Free)" does so in a subtle way that will not hinder secular fans downloading their tracks but it is the more everyday relationship subjects contained in the likes of "Care" and the clever "Non-Girlfriend" that will appeal to the widest audience. In summary, this is an accomplished taster from an outfit that certainly have what it takes to make it a whole lot bigger.
