The Michigan-born artist has become a significant figure on America's Christian hip-hop scene and this, his second album, finds him exploring his paternal roots by leaning towards the sounds of his father's birthplace of Montego Bay in Jamaica. As you might expect, there is an overriding Caribbean feel to proceedings with occasional hints of reggae nestling next to Malcolm's laidback rapped delivery. Cases in point include the auto-tuned "Rodeo" and the candid "The Beauty Of Dreams" - both of which contain an expertly executed island vibe - whilst tracks like "Fadeaway" and "Feugo" help keep one foot firmly planted in urban hip-hop territory and give this varied release a sense of urgency. Thematically, Malcolm throws in references to his Christian beliefs with the likes of the spiritual warfare song "Devil Is A Liar", the confessional "Heart Of David" and the worshipful "Even Louder" covering a wide expanse in relation to matters of faith. A fine cover of Bob Marley's "Redemption Song" closes this sumptuous offering from the Dove-nominated artist whilst cameos from guest artists including Leeland, Taylor Hill and Zauntee help provide the icing on the cake throughout the rest of the release.
