After an album of reworked hymns, the latest release from Cheshire-based Steve Parsons sees the experienced singer/songwriter once again team up with producer/guitarist Dan Wheeler to offer up a collection of assured originals that delicately tell of Jesus' love. For the most part, Parsons and Wheeler keep things fairly low key instrumentally - piano, brushes, wistful electric guitar and such like - and this in turn leaves plenty of space for Parsons' trademark soulful baritone vocals and tender lyrics to take precedent. The overarching theme of God welcoming us - no matter our shortcomings - into a relationship with him is communicated with precision, humility and sincerity in tracks like the communion song "The Table" and the beautiful "Born Again" whilst intimate worship songs like "Find My Strength In You" are truly moving. A bit more movement away from the overriding mid-tempo nature of the album and some variation to the basic instrumentation would have been welcome but only as gold plating on a sublime album that showcases Parsons' standing as a thoughtful and innately skilful Christian songwriter.
