This Dove Award winning inspirational singer (who became 50 this year) has made a plethora of recordings over his 20-year career. This disc celebrates some of his early successes, though these 10 songs come from only two recordings, 'Steve Green' (1984) and 'He Holds The Key' (1985). The title-track from the latter disc comes over with exaggerated drama, as do one or two others that carry loaded orchestral and choral accompaniment. More impressive are ballads like "Broken And Spilled Out" and the moving prayer-cry "Touch Your People Once Again". In fact, about half of these songs are direct anthems of worship - "Lamb Of Glory" being especially uplifting, while Green's classic "People Need The Lord" also finds a worthy place. While some of these tunes sound a bit dated now, Steve's unquestionably powerful vocals stand out on them all - though, to be honest, I can't say his mannered, theatric vocal stylings do much for me.
