A 16-song compilation from a swathe of his old albums. Steve has a delightful pop voice, rich, flexible and expressive and on ballads like the poignant title track (from the 'Steve Green' album) the effect is quite beautiful. Unfortunately, often the arrangements are in Greg Nelson's overblown 'insp radio' mode, so that the drama inherent in songs like "The Mission" or "He Holds The Keys" is dragged into musical melodrama as the choirs and tympani soar and crash. If your mum likes this kind of thing, this compilation could be a belated Christmas pressie. Otherwise avoid.

I still recall when Steve was initially with ccm group
White Heart upon the debut release of their first release in
1983. This cd is filled with over 70 minutes of well known
Steve Green songs. The starter/title song "People Need the
Lord" was also recorded by long time running artist Pat
Boone this same year as Steve's solo debut. Either version
you hear is pleasurable and speaks to the listener. I have
the vinyl copy of "God & God Alone" which contains the duet
with his wife Marijean "Household of Faith"; one of Steve's
signatures. I missed not hearing the powerful "What are the
Words" on this collection.
His 1985 song of the year, "He Holds the Keys" will be a
nice reflective moment for listeners.
This cd contains classic christian songs that helped in the
foundation of ccm sound. I loved hearing the late Keith
Green revisited song "Grace by Which I Stand"; I have the
tribute cd, love it! I have a live video clip of the new
song "A Mighty Fortress";btw all the new songs are old hymns
revived. The title song from 1991 "We Believe" ignites with
its piercing lyrics for the believer to value christian
beliefs.
I must admit that I am somewhat baffled that above writer
would state to christians "avoid" this collection.
Granted that these songs are more well suited to be heard
while sitting in the pews, nonetheless these are timeless &
classic ccm songs. God bless, Don
