Staci Frenes makes her home in Northern California with her husband, two kids and dog, and has been quietly working away over the last decade as a songwriter (she's written stuff for and with Margaret Becker, Ginny Owens, Kelly Minter, Sheila Walsh and Nichole Nordeman, and she's also scored some film music) and a singer with a tasty line in catchy contemporary Christian pop. This is her fifth indie release, and whilst she claims her musical heroines to be Joni Mitchell and Annie Lennox, she manages to avoid sounding like either of them. Particular fave on first listening is "Surprise Me", one of her collaborations with Ginny Owens, but there's plenty more good stuff here, not a duff track to be heard. So if, like me, you like to hear a melodious and relevant songbird offering well crafted songs, this is well worth searching out.

I've just discovered from Staci's website www.stacifrenes.com, that if you want to know how to pronounce her surname, you rhyme it with 'tennis'!
