Speak, Brother do moodily haunting better than just about any band around as this single demonstrates. A throbbing midtempo rhythm and James Herring's doleful voice deliver a memorable song inspired by a true story of a girl addicted to drugs shown mercy and understanding by a judge. The song's interplay between James and the other group members' backing refrain makes for a delicious close on a track which improves with every play. It's a shame that the eagerly awaited full-length album debut won't be out until next year as these guys continue to be one of the UK scene's greatest treasures.
