Since first coming to public acclaim when played on the school intercom system at the age of 10, or was it the release of his debut CD 'I Need You Now' in June 2002, Smokie has been at the forefront of gospel music. This DVD has performances of the tracks from his second album in front of a small audience. At times the choir, adorned with their sunglasses, appear to outnumber the congregation. The style is traditional in feel with a contemporary edge, as Smokie portrays a clean-cut image that would appeal across the generation divides. Powerful, emotive singing, packed with grace notes and vocal acrobatics are displayed while his piano work shows Smokie to be a skilled instrumentalist. As with most musical DVDs, if you love the album the tracks are sourced from then you are likely to love the performances, though the stylised presentation is unlikely to attract many new fans.
