All good things come to those who wait are the words of a common proverb and this album delivers the truth of the statement. The two years since 'Live Like That" plus a Christmas album that same year has seen the band assemble an eclectic palate of songs designed to inspire, entertain and teach. Not only does the album provide musical variety taking in pop, rock, gospel, country and soul with an ease most bands can only dream about, but also a lyrical exposition of life with all its ups and downs, then offering a Biblical response to contemplate. The band's Dave Frey has startling vocal ability, able to scream like a swaggering hard rocker then caress a ballad with the delicacy of lace. He wrings expression out of every syllable, giving songs like "To Live Is Christ" and "Come To The Table" an emotional intensity, not forced but real, that insists the listener pay attention to key life messages. Driving drums lead into "Prodigal", the opener followed by a gentle, thoughtful song "Everything In Awe" and the lighthearted, folky offering "Ain't Nobody". "Closer", a piano led, oh so soulful song that starts slowly and builds into a gospel choir climax, sums up the whole ethos of the band as the exquisite vocals, shared between Dave and gospel star Tamela Mann, ask, then beg, via the words of the beatitudes, for the relationship with God to grow and develop to provide fulfilment in life. So professional, so profound, such a performance, it would be so good not to have to wait as long for the next album.
