I've kind of lost count of the number of Shirley's live albums...but I'm not complaining for certainly recording the gospel matriarch as she storms along in front of a choir robed-swaying throng and with a congregation urging her on to rafter-raising heights is an impossible-to-beat formula. This was recorded at (very deep breath) the Greater Bibleway Miracle Temple International Fellowship Of The Apostolic Faith (don't you wish your church had a name like that?) in Atlanta, Georgia and bristles with passion and gutsy exuberance. There's a cooking rhythm section complete with some sassy horns, some excellent new material and the version of "He Will Come" featuring one of Shirley's famed folksy sermonettes about a little boy is the kind of spiritual communication some find to be contrived sentimentality but which will grip any black gospel buff. Wonderful, timeless stuff.
