Newcomers to the two Shanes, Barnard and Everett, will be very pleased with this. Here, accomplished acoustic guitar work provides the setting for stirring tenor harmonies that are so tight that you will frequently forget that this is live. From the countrified "Psalm 118" to the soulful "Fringes" there is not a dud track in sight. With voices made for each other, the Shanes present a worshipful set that combines lyrical simplicity with musical dexterity and hooks that penetrate. Existing fans are presented with only one new track, "Arise," which drives on the acoustic side of rock. The bonus DVD is evidence that music this good can be achieved on the first take. Unfortunately there's a technical glitch in that the sound and vision are very fractionally out of sync. Even so, this is inspiring stuff indeed and I for one shall be investigating back catalogue.
