A 2012 album from prolific Prestwick-based singer/songwriter Scott Nicol contains a bumper 16 tracks that convey the man's now trademark theme of positivity amidst adversity to the backdrop of faith. As is Nicol's way, each song is completely accessible and listeners - believers or not - will find themselves drawn in on account of Nicol's earthy vocals, sincerity of delivery and the poetic imagery of his lyrics. Proceedings kick off with the optimistic "Something's Gonna Happen" which sets the scene for an album that mixes high octane anthems with slow contemplative numbers to good effect. For instance, the likes of the thought-provoking "Numb And Fragile" and the tribute to a lost friend "Maria" show a fragile side to the experienced troubadour whilst sitting comfortably next to more upbeat numbers like the Boss-like title track and the life-affirming "River Of Tears". Although the mix is somewhat boxy and Nicol's vocals tend to be a tad too far back in the melee of instruments, songs like "The Romance Of American Skies" - a love letter to his second home - and the unforgettable "Like The Best" help make this another strong offering from Nicol.
