You may have come across Scott's music as part of the Scottish band MID but this new EP introduces a fresh set of songs as a taster for a new solo album. This is good old fashioned Celtic rock'n'roll with influences as broad as Dylan and Prosch but the result has a touch of Deacon Blue to these ears - must be the female co-vocalist. Whatever the reason, the results are pleasing though the demo quality production means that there are moments when the weaknesses pop up. (Check out the horrible guitar sound on "She Used To Be So Special"!) Quibbles aside, the strengths here are Scott's excellent voice (reminds me of ICC artist Alex Legg) and strong emotive songwriting. Standout tracks for me are the driving anthemic "The Wastelands Of Our Lives" and the title cut which builds from an understated opening into a strong catchy pop tune. Scott's clearly a man who takes his songwriting seriously and 'Lovetown' simply points towards a man going places, Can't wait for the next one.
