First off, let me just say that ever since I first heard Salvador, I have considered them a worship band; sort of a Hispanic Delirious?, if you like. Listening to them, you do get the sense of a group of musicians offering their best musicianship to God as an act of worship. That said, I don’t consider this a worship album at all. It just sounds like a band gigging – albeit a very good band, and a very enjoyable gig. Recorded live at a church in New Mexico (purely for the purpose of making a live DVD, as they remind us constantly throughout), this is a collection of some of the band’s most popular tracks from their previous three albums, plus a handful of the most popular worship songs doing the rounds (“Here I Am To Worship”, “I Could Sing Of Your Love Forever”, etc). For the most part, it’s as energetic as you’d expect Salvador to sound live – although their rendition of “Lord, I Come Before You” here sounds restrained compared to the all-guns-blazing version that opened their debut album. All in all, a nice album – but I would advise Curb/Warner/Word (how many labels do you need?) to drop the word “worship” from the title and call it what it really is.
