The latest Christmas offering from British husband and wife duo Ben and Anita Tatlow - stage name Salt Of The Sound - is an altogether more ambient affair than their previous seasonal mini album 'Waiting For The Dawn' which was released back in 2016. If you can imagine the sound of Anita's pure voice and Ben's ethereal and echoing soundscapes floating through the limitless void of outer space, you'd just about get the feel for this refreshingly unique collection of Christmas-themed pieces. The briefest of snatches of the Basque folk carol "Gabriel's Message" sets things in motion before delightfully freeform renditions of oldies like "Coventry Carol" and "O Holy Night" breathe - or rather whisper - new life into these well-worn classics. Proceedings reach a climax of sorts near the end with the more structured "Come To Us (Abide)" without destroying the spacious and drifting feel of the rest of this intriguingly different release.
