Russ might have been working in the Christian music industry for more than 40 years, but 'Believe' is billed as the veteran's "first worship album." Opening with a rocky version of the Jesus Culture song "Your Love Never Fails" (not the Jeremy Riddle one) the up tempo continues with a powerful new version of The Call's "I Still Believe". Other familiar songs get a Russ update, such as Bethel's "No Longer Slaves", The Imperials' "Be Still My Soul", Russ's own "We Will Stand" and a smooth ballad rendition of the William Cowper hymn "There Is A Fountain". There are some other distinctive voices adding their vocal talents, such as Amy Grant on "Don't Try So Hard" and David Crowder on "I Am". Russ still has a great voice and the arrangements here give it space to roam resulting in a classy album of worship material.
