Recent live projects like The Mandate' and 'Revival In Belfast' have been good but I for one have longed to see the Belfast worship songwriter return to the recording studio. My first impression of this new set was that it didn't quite have the memorability of 'Not By Might' and 'Days Of Elijah' but anyone who has thrilled to the exultant power of Mark compositions like "Revival" and "Lion Of Judah" will know that this man has the unerring ability to write songs which creep up on you as their memorability takes hold and their resonance of lyric begins to speak to congregations large and small. So I will reserve my judgment as to whether there is a new classic in the worship songs here though "Rock Of Ages" and "You Are Robed" both sound like they could have that certain something. As with previous Mark albums, alongside the worship there are. some personal, singer/songwriter type numbers with both "6.30am" and "Men Of A Certain Age" having a laid back, Irish folk charm which is undoubtedly engaging. Production is a little stripped-down and understated for my tastes, though I am sure this will do brisk business in the book stores.
