Cross Rhythms has recently written favourable things about Robbie and his band of rock journeyman and given the thumbs up to his 'Psalms' EP series. So it's no surprise that Vol 3 keeps up the high standards. The standout cut is "Psalm 66 (You Are Great)" which starts with the haunting "Come.and see what God has done" and is rich in melody as well as King David's uplifting lyrics. Almost as good is "Psalm 116 (You Turn My Soul To Rest)" and though the "Psalm 18" is less melodically memorable, despite some inventive production ideas, by the closer "Psalm 130 (I Wait)", a slow and tender treatment with some rich and soulful singing from Robbie, I wouldn't have been averse to several more Psalm recastings. Clearly Robbie's late discovery of the Psalms as a lyrics sourcebook is benefitting all of us.
