If you missed this set from a band led by singer, songwriter and producer Michael Musick when US label Union Street Records released it in 2006 (I did), you might want to check it out now. Michael and his bandmates play lilting, often haunting music which sounds like a cross between the softer end of Jars Of Clay and The Almosts. There are one or two well-known names from the Nashville CCM scene - Jerry McPherson, John Catchings, Phillip LaRue - to fill out the band's sound and the lyrics are OK though without reaching any particular theological depth. Michael's voice has an appealing texture and the deft use of strings and harmony on some songs are spot on. If you enjoy skilfully executed CCM 'Love Rain Down' will reward its purchase.
