Successor to Bob Dylan in the mega-star "is he isn't he?" stakes has to be Rick Wakeman, keyboard virtuoso extraordinaire and legend of British rock. To satisfy thrill-seekers, yes he's one of us, but before your committee debates inviting him to play at your Sunday School Anniversary, be informed that Rick is no raving evan-jellymould. Thankfully, he has an individual, thoughtful approach to this work putting emphasis on God's Word rather than the Wakeman genius. The one hour + set includes 10 Bible scenarios with Rick's musical score accompanying his wife Nina Carter's narration of scripture. Of course there are great, profound, surging depths to the music right from track one's highly descriptive "The Creation". I've never enjoyed music set to narration, but there's such controlled power and magnificent sounds in this case, that it's irresistible. "In The Beginning", though more restrained, sits happily with Wakeman's classics "The Six Wives", "Journey To" and "King Arthur". A great musician using his talents to offer a big, heartfelt "thank you" in his own chosen way.
